Ghana will be without Joseph Paintsil for their World Cup qualifier against Chad on Thursday after the LA Galaxy forward was unable to join the squad in time due to travel delays.

Paintsil’s journey from Los Angeles via New York unravelled when his initial flight was held back, causing him to miss his connection to Accra.

By the time the winger touched down in Ghana on Wednesday morning, the Black Stars had already left for N’Djamena.

The 26-year-old’s absence trims Otto Addo’s options to 22 players for the Group I clash at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno. While regarded as a blow, officials believe the depth of the squad remains strong enough to secure the result.

Paintsil is expected to rejoin his teammates on their return to Accra and will be available for Monday’s qualifier against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana currently lead Group I with 15 points from six matches, ahead of Comoros and Madagascar, as they edge closer to a fifth World Cup berth.
