Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has set his sights on guiding the club to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, following their FA Cup triumph on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors secured their place in next season’s continental competition after edging Golden Kick FC 2-1 in the final of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The victory marked Kotoko’s 10th FA Cup title.
Striker Kwame Opoku starred in the final, scoring twice — a well-timed header in the 17th minute and a late penalty in the 89th minute — to hand Kotoko a hard-fought win against the second-tier side.
Speaking after the game, Coach Zito highlighted the club’s preparations and their ultimate goal in Africa’s second-tier competition.
“Kotoko has a lot of programs,” he told Peace FM. “On the 6th [of July], we are playing Accra Hearts of Oak, and we are also expected to travel to South Africa to participate in a tournament. So you can see how busy we will be.”
“All of these are part of our preparation for the upcoming Confederation Cup. Our main objective is to reach the group stage, and we are going to do our best to make that happen.”
Kotoko will represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup after last featuring in continental competition during the 2021/22 campaign.
