The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially approved the 2025/26 Omnibus Competitions Calendar following a presentation by General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo during its June 9 meeting.

The new football season will run from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, aligning with the GFA Statutes and its financial year. The calendar has been carefully structured to ensure all major domestic competitions conclude ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11, 2026.

Key Highlights of the 2025/26 Season:

  • Premier League: Regular matches will be played on Sundays, with midweek slots reserved for outstanding fixtures.

  • Division One League & Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League: Both retain Sunday matchdays.

  • MTN FA Cup: Most matches will take place on weekends, though select fixtures in the Round of 64 and Round of 32 may be played midweek.

  • Women’s FA Cup: All matches will be played exclusively on weekends.

  • eTrophy (GFA eFootball Competition): The digital competition returns, providing a pathway to the national eFootball team.

  • Beach Soccer & Futsal Premier Leagues: These competitions continue as part of the GFA’s expanded sporting portfolio.

Regional Football Structure:

All Regional Football Association (RFA) leagues — including Division Two, Division Three, Regional Women’s Division One, and the Colts (U13, U15, U17) — are set to begin on or before October 1, 2025, and end by May 31, 2026.

Girls Colts Expansion:

Following successful pilot programs in the Northern and Greater Accra Regions, the GFA will implement a nationwide rollout of the Girls Colts competitions (U15 and U17) during the 2025/26 season. The initiative is supported by FIFA’s Women’s Football Development Programme and the Ten Regional Football Associations (RFAs).

Off-Season Tournaments:

The calendar also accommodates several elite youth and development tournaments, including:

  • Elite U15 Girls Championship

  • Elite U19 Second Division Championship

  • Boys U15 Elite Competition

  • KGL Foundation U17 Colts Championship

To support early planning, the GFA has also released key administrative timelines, including club registration periods and the 31st GFA Annual Congress.

The association emphasized that the structured calendar is part of its ongoing commitment to developing a competitive and organized football environment across all levels and age groups in Ghana.
