Asamoah Gyan insists that Kwesi Appiah's reason for stripping him off the Black Stars captaincy wasn't coherent and tangible.

Ghana's all time record goalscorer, Gyan was stripped off the Black Stars armband ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations(AFCON).

Kwesi Appiah has stated recently that he took off the armband to Andre Ayew for the benefit of the team and it was his sole decision.

Asamoah Gyan rescinded his decision to retire from the team due to the decision but Ghana's President, Nana Akuffo-Addo intervened for him to rescind his decision.

Speaking to Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV four years after the brouhaha, Asamoah Gyan said Kwesi Appiah had no coherent and tangible reason for stripping him off the captaincy.

"He gave me the captain. He flew to Dubai but when he wanted to take the armband back, it wasn't the right time. He had to give me a tangible reason. Somebody was the captain before me and I don't have a problem with coach but I felt the timing was wrong. And also the explanation for the reason why he did that wasn't coherent. That was why I got angry," he said.

"I told home I was angry and suggested that he leaves me out of the squad so that he could work with a sound mind. He told me I should rethink it because I'm in his plans," he added.
