Former Ghana international midfielder, Derek Boateng, has expressed his desire for the return of Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to lead the country's football scene once again.

Boateng, who played for clubs like Fulham and Elche during his playing days, praised Nyantakyi's achievements as one of the most successful leaders of Ghana's football governing body.

Boateng lamented the untimely end to Nyantakyi's tenure, which was cut short by the Number 12 exposé by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Despite the scandal, Boateng believes that Ghanaian football would have continued to flourish under Nyantakyi's leadership.

"I wish Nyantakyi could return to oversee Ghana Football. His achievements are well-documented, and it's unfortunate how his time ended," Boateng said in an interview with Accra-based Kingdom FM.

"I can't comment on the validity of the accusations against him since I wasn't there, but his impact on the sport is undeniable."

During Nyantakyi's presidency, Ghana achieved several significant milestones, including winning the U-20 World Cup and making its debut in the World Cup in Germany in 2006. The Black Stars also participated in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups in South Africa and Brazil, respectively. Additionally, the team played in the 2010 and 2015 AFCON finals but failed to clinch the trophy.

Boateng's comments come as a surprise, given the controversy surrounding Nyantakyi's departure from office. However, he believes that Nyantakyi's achievements and impact on Ghanaian football far outweigh any controversies that may have surrounded his tenure.
