Former Minister for Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has disclosed that, it will be very difficult for the Black Stars to thrive under the current Ghana FA even if we have football great managers Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp in charge.

He made these remarks following the ill performance of the senior men national team who recently failed to book a spot at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations - the first since 2004.

The four-time African champions for the first time ever have ended an AFCON qualifiers campaign without a win, having finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points; culminated from three draws and three loses from six games.

Former Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has stated emphatically clear he would have dissolved the current GFA if he was still in charge and start proper restructuring to help get Ghana football back on track and where it belong.

The Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency further stated the Black Stars are currently underperforming because of the autocratic leadership at the GFA and that the team will still be in shambles even if we appoint Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp to lead with the way things are at the moment.

“If I were the Sports Minister, I would disband the GFA. We are not going to be at the Africa Cup of Nations. FIFA will suspend us for six months, and we can use that time to restructure and prepare for the next AFCON qualifiers", he told Kumasi-based Kessben FM

“Let’s ask ourselves, why should we always sit and allow the GFA to sack the coach when the Black Stars fail? What is going on in Ghana football is bigger than just coaching.

“If you hire Pep Guardiola, Jürgen Klopp, or any top coach, and we don’t change the structure, we will still fail. We’ve created a setup where one person controls the players, appoints the coach, and even manages ballboys and the team doctor. How will the Black Stars succeed?”

The Black Stars will regroup in March next year to play Chad in match-day five of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
