The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has confirmed that steps are being taken to acquire pitch covers for Ghana’s major stadia in a bid to improve maintenance standards.

In recent years, several facilities have been deemed unfit to host matches, with deterioration often linked to poor upkeep and the absence of protective equipment.

“We are in the process of acquiring pitch covers for our stadia. In the past, maybe it was an oversight, and that is why we don’t have some at the moment, but for now, we are making arrangements to get some,” Ankrah told Asempa FM.

He stressed the importance of safeguarding pitches to avoid the decline seen in previous seasons.

“We don’t want our pitches to deteriorate, as we witnessed in the past,” he added.

Among the venues expected to benefit are the Accra Sports Stadium, Aliu Mahama Stadium, Baba Yara Stadium, Cape Coast Stadium and Essipong Stadium.
