Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has urged all Asante Kotoko supporters to keep their chin up as the Baba Yara stadium nears completion and might be available for the club should they advance to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors are Ghana’s representatives in this years second elite club competition on the continent but couldn’t use their favourite venue for their first game due to it current unfit state.
The ‘Kum Apem’ lads engaged Nigerian fold Kwara United over the weekend in the first preliminary round at the Ohene Gyan stadium in Accra - in a game they won by 4-3.
The results isn’t really impressive despite the victory as they are currently sitting on a tenterhook and will have to avoid a defeat in the return encounter this weekend to cruise into the second qualifying round.
Speaking in a recent interview, the renowned journalist, who now heads the NSA says they have worked extra harder in the last few weeks to ensure the Kumasi Sports Stadium will meet the required standard to host games and has assured Kotoko will be able to use it if they go further in the competition.
"It is possible Asante Kotoko might return to play their CAF Confederation Cup games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium if they qualify for the next round," Ampofo Ankrah said.
"We have been working to ensure we get it in a good state.
"That is why we have instructed that the Rapaholic event must not be hosted on the pitch," he added.
The second leg between Asante Kotoko and Kwara United is scheduled for Sunday, September 28, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
