Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has reassured fans that Razak Simpson remains an integral part of the Black Stars setup despite his exclusion from the latest squad.

The Nations FC captain was left out of Otto Addo’s 24-man list for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Mali next month.

Simpson, 25, made his senior debut for Ghana during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and has since become a dependable figure in the national team. His absence from the squad raised questions among supporters, but Asante Twum stressed that it does not signal a loss of confidence in the midfielder.

“Razak Simpson is still part of the team despite being left out of the squad for the Chad and Mali games,” Asante Twum told Asempa FM.

“There is always a bigger pool of players available to the technical team, so if someone is not included this time, it doesn’t mean he is no longer in the plans.”

The Black Stars will first travel to N’Djamena to face Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on Thursday, September 4, before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8.

The team is expected to begin camp in Accra on Monday, September 1, as preparations intensify for the crucial doubleheader.
