Great Olympics defender Larry Sumaila says he is confident the Dade Boys will triumph over city rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2025 Democracy Cup final next week.
The highly anticipated second edition of the annual tournament, organized by Parliament to celebrate Ghana’s democratic journey through football, will see Olympics take on the Phobians at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday, September 5.
For Sumaila, who will be facing his former club, the match represents more than silverware — it’s about pride and history in one of Ghana’s fiercest rivalries.
“We all know when it comes to Hearts of Oak and Olympics, the rivalry between the two teams is very great and intense,” Sumaila told reporters after Thursday’s training session. “We call on everyone to come to the stadium to witness a very good football game.”
The defender also urged fans to rally behind the team as they chase glory. “We want to invite all our supporters to rally behind us on the 5th of September at the Legon Sports Stadium to cheer us on so that we can bring back the glory to Great Olympics. We won’t disappoint.”
Meanwhile, the team’s preparations received a boost as Twellium Industrial Company supported the squad with cartons of water and energy drinks at their La McDan Park training base.
