Retired FIFA referee Richard Atifu has passed away following a car accident last Saturday.
Despite being immediately rushed to Ridge Hospital in Accra, he did not survive.
Atifu was a distinguished figure in football refereeing, having presided over numerous high-profile matches both domestically and internationally.
He was considered one of Africa's most experienced referees at the time of his retirement, having overseen games in various competitions such as the African Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Apart from his career in refereeing, Atifu was a FIFA instructor, helping to mentor and train young referees to achieve success in their own careers.
He was renowned for his professionalism, commitment, and love for the sport, and his contributions to the football community will always be remembered.
