Ghana Football Association (GFA) General Secretary, Lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo has outlined that, the Black Meteor's next target and that's to book themselves into the 2024 Olympic Games which will be held in Paris.
Ghana last participated in football in the global sports competition in Athens 2004- marking almost nineteen year abeyance and will hope to secure qualification this time around.
The Black Meteors missed out on the last edition narrowly after making the semi final of the CAF U23 Championship and subsequently lost painfully to South Africa in the third place playoffs.
However, Ibrahim Tanko's men with a 2-1 on aggregate win over Algeria late last month secured qualification to this year's U23 Africa Cup of Nations and will have to make the final three at the competition to secure a spot.
Speaking to Citi FM, Harrison Addo admitted their target is qualification to Paris and added they have already begun monitoring the players and will held other further preparations to get them well gelled for the tourney.
"That is the quest; the quest is to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games next year, so the technical team, the FA and everybody is geared up, in terms of the preparations to ensure that we present a good team," Harrison Addo told Accra-based radio station Citi FM
“We want to give them good preparations so they are in the position to be compete with the rest of Africa in terms of the other teams that will come for the tournament.
"Three full slots are available for the Olympics, and the other is the 50/50 slot, so we want to take one of the slots for the Olympic Games”
"We must be ready to do that. Immediately we qualified for the tournament in Morocco, we began preparations for the Black Meteors."
"The coaches are monitoring the players for us to get the best for the tournament."
"Engagement with the clubs is one other thing we are looking at so we can have the best of preparations.”
The 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations will be staged in Morocco in June this year.
