Kofi Adams says Ghana is fortunate to have an experienced coach like Carlos Queiroz leading the Ghana national team ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The Portuguese coach has signed a four-month contract to guide the Black Stars into this years’s tournament, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The 73-year-old takes over from Otto Addo, who was dismissed after a run of disappointing results, including back-to-back defeats during the March international window.

Speaking after meeting Queiroz at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation ahead of his official unveiling at the Alisa Hotel, Mr Adams praised the coach’s long career and success at the highest level.

“We are going to benefit from him, and as the saying goes, the old wine tastes the best,” the Buem MP said.

“He has gathered experience all over, and his experience will be put before the Black Stars of Ghana, and so we are so lucky to have such an experienced coach, not just at the club level but at the national level and at the World Cup stage,” Mr Adams added.

Officials present at the introduction included Kurt Okraku, members of the Black Stars management committee and the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association.

Queiroz is expected to begin his time in charge with friendly matches against Mexico and Wales as part of preparations for the tournament.

Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
