The Director of Marketing at the Ghana Football Association, Jamil Maraby, says the association has a clear plan to make Ghana football one of the most recognised brands in the world.
Maraby, who is responsible for branding, sponsorship and commercial work, said the vision goes beyond success in Africa. He explained that the GFA wants to compete with the biggest football brands globally, using the popularity of the Ghana national football team.
Speaking on the GFA Podcast with Patrick Akoto, Maraby outlined his ambition.
“I want the GFA to be the top three most identifiable brands in Africa, in the world. The world? Yes, because in Africa it’s easy.”
He admitted the goal is bold but said it follows a long-standing idea that football can help promote national identity and influence.
“That’s an audacious target. Our founder (Kwame Nkrumah), that was his target. He wanted to use football and the Black Stars to project his vision for Africa.”
The Ghana Football Association has recently increased efforts to grow its global presence through partnerships, stronger branding and wider promotion of the Ghana national football team.
Officials believe Ghana football has the history, talent and cultural strength needed to compete with some of the biggest sports brands in the world.
