Arsenal insider Charles Watts has revealed that the club is focused on strengthening its midfield depth next summer, amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho.

The Gunners have made an impressive start to the Premier League season, sitting just one point behind leaders Liverpool after seven matches. Partey has been a consistent presence in the No. 6 role, while Jorginho has offered reliable support whenever needed.

The contracts of both players are set to expire at the end of the season, raising questions about the likelihood of their continued presence at the club beyond this term.

Watts: Arsenal evaluating midfield options as uncertainty surrounds Jorginho and Partey

Speaking to Caught Offside, Watts noted, “Arsenal are looking at midfield options ahead of the summer, with the futures of Jorginho and Thomas Partey very much in doubt right now. I’m sure Ederson’s name would have been discussed given the form he has been in of late.”

However, he added, “But I can’t say for certain whether he is a player they are seriously considering as an option right now. It’s just too early at the moment for that. I’ve certainly not heard anything myself.”

Watts further acknowledged Ederson's capabilities, stating, “Ederson is clearly a very accomplished player; he’s shown that with Atalanta and he’s now starting to get some opportunities with Brazil as well. Whether that’s enough to convince Arsenal to join the race for him, however, we’ll have to wait and see.”

The Ghana captain joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 for a transfer fee of £45 million (€50 million). Since then, he has made over 100 appearances for the club and was a key member of the Arsenal squad that secured the Community Shield in 2023.
