The Black Stars were unable to capitalise on their home advantage, settling for a draw against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium in an AFCON 2025 fixture.
It was a much-improved performance from Otto Addo's team but they failed to make good use of the several opportunities that came their way especially in the second half.
The Black Stars have yet to secure a win in three matches, with two draws and one defeat, placing them third in the standings behind Angola and Sudan with just two points. This underwhelming start highlights the team's need for improvement as they aim to climb the league table.
Black Stars player ratings
Goalkeeper and Defence
Lawrence Ati-Zigi (6/10)
Although he wasn’t tested much, the Ghana number one was a calm presence at the back and dealt with all the aerial balls without any panic.
Alidu Seidu (7/10)
Deployed as a right-back against Sudan, the Rennes man showed great awareness and athleticism on the right flank. He helped to thwart several attacking moves by the opponents.
Alexander Djiku (6/10)
A rock-solid towering presence in Ghana's backline. But for the crossbar, the Fenerbache defender would have gotten his name on the scoresheet in the first half.
Mohammed Salisu (6/10)
Calm and composed, the centre-back complimented his teammates well in the four-back system and didn’t put a foot wrong.
Gideon Mensah (6/10)
Quite comfortable for most of the game and tried to get forward whenever he could, but his frustration spilled over in the final seconds.
Midfield
Elisha Owusu (8/10)
A characteristically classy and industrious display from the midfielder, who won plenty of possession and used it well.
Ibrahim Sulemana (6/10)
Always tried to make things happen but lacked the extra bit of quality to do so.
Mohammed Kudus (6/10)
Rushed and ragged in the final third, the precise moment when he needed to keep a cool head.
Attack
Ernest Nuamah (5/10)
Looked solid for the opening 45 minutes then things took a downward turn and he was hooked for Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.
Jordan Ayew (5/10)
Started the game with his usual understated style but became a little sloppy on the ball in the second half. Still created a few chances, but not at his extraordinary best.
Antonine Semenyo (5/10)
Pressed well and used his body excellently in build-up play, but squandered a great chance in the second half.
Subs & Manager
Inaki Williams
Tried to make things happen and was unlucky not to have gotten a goal.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku
Was presented an opportunity to score the winner in addd time but the Leicester man fluffed his line.
Michael Baidoo
Not much time to make an impact.
Otto Addo (7/10)
Got his tactics spot on! Sudan never stood a chance right from the start of the game, while Ghana looked threatening with every move. His starting line-up and in-game changes were also on point and he deserves credit for how he managed the match.
