The University for Development Studies from Ghana made history and put the country’s name on the map which earned them a heroes welcome on their return home.
The Tamala-based university defied all odds with consistent top-tier performances to emerge champions of the 2025 FIFA University World Cup tournament that was held in Dalian, China just a week ago.
After a stunning run to the final, the Ghanaians came up against defending champions Paulista University from Brazil in a very fascinating encounter at the 40,000 seater Suoywan Stadium.
Having conceded in just a minute from kickoff in the epic final, the Green and Whites bounced back stronger and levelled things up through skipper Mohammed Asigre Sulemana in the dying embers to send the game to extra-time.
In the closing moment, 120+1 minutes precisely, starman Ezedeen Alhassan scored spectacularly from a direct free kick out of nowhere to win it for the Ghanaians and became the first ever from the African continent to win the competition.
On their arrival back to the country, University for Development Studies were given a heroes welcome for a good job done with Minister of Sports and Recreation Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams and others all present at the Kotoka International Airport.
There has been series of media tour in the country to celebrate this huge successs which will definitely give Ghana a very good account in the outside world.
