Former Black Stars captain André Ayew has stressed the need for immediate improvements in Ghana football amid reports linking him with a possible run for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency.
Speculation about Ayew’s interest in contesting the next GFA elections has gained attention, although the former Swansea City, Marseille and West Ham United forward has yet to confirm any intention to enter the race.
In a recent interview, the 36-year-old shifted attention from questions about future leadership to the need to address the challenges facing Ghana football, insisting that work must begin without delay.
“We need to start now, not tomorrow. My focus is on how we can improve Ghana football. Questions about who will take over can come later,” Ayew said.
The former Black Stars skipper also highlighted his understanding of the domestic game and the need for practical steps to improve it, adding that progress must begin somewhere.
“I understand the local game, and I know things need to improve. We need to start somewhere and take steps forward,” he added.
Andre Ayew, who has featured for several clubs across Europe and the Middle East, is yet to officially announce his retirement from professional football.
His comments come as discussions about his possible involvement in GFA leadership continue, but no formal announcement has been made.
