Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren has surprisingly stated his girls played very well despite the defeat as he feels they at certain point in the game lost concentration

Ghana opened their Women’s Africa Cup of Nation campaign with a defeat after falling to a 2-0 defeat to reigning champions South Africa in what was a very exciting fixture at Oudja

The ‘Bayana Bayana’ continued their impressive performance to pile pressure on the backline of Ghanaians to commit a penalty in the 26th minute.

After a VAR review, the spot-kick awarded to South Africans was brilliantly converted by Linda Motlhalo in the 28th minute of the game.

Six minutes later, 31-year-old Jermaine Seoposenwe doubled the lead for South Africa with a superb finish to hand them a 2-0 lead into the break

Speaking after the game, the Swedish gaffer admitted his girls forgot what they were supposed to do tactically at some point but feels they were the better side but the penalty changed everything

“We were the better team for the first 30 minutes until the goal came. They scored from the penalty, it came from nowhere. After that, we gave them the opportunity to score another one and that is a problem. We lost a little bit of concentration.”

“Otherwise, I think the performance was pretty good. We knew we were playing the previous champions perhaps the toughest game we could have.”

The Black Queens will face Mali in their second group game on Friday, July 11, 2025
