Black Stars Management Committee Chairman Dr Randy Abbey has confirmed that Ghana’s technical setup will be reinforced ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as preparations intensify for the global showpiece in North America.
The move follows the Black Stars’ recent restructuring after missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which saw the addition of experienced personnel such as Winfried Schäfer, Desmond Ofei, and Gregory De Grauwe to the backroom staff.
With the tournament just months away, Dr Abbey revealed that more reinforcements are expected as part of plans to strengthen the team’s overall structure.
“From where I sit, we are contracted to Otto. I haven’t seen the employers of Otto Addo call for a change,” he told Sporty FM.
“What I know is that before every major competition, AFCON or World Cup, we strengthen the technical setup, scouting, and medical team.”
The veteran football administrator explained that the focus is not on replacing head coach Otto Addo, but rather on equipping him with stronger technical and analytical support.
“For every competition, we always beef up the technical team — whether it’s AFCON or the World Cup. In the areas of medical, technical, scouting, or video analysis, we bring in additional expertise.
“We are going to have that conversation to identify where our weaknesses are and how to improve. The goal is to ensure a better technical appreciation of what is before us.”
“The focus is on improving the structure around him, not changing him,” he added. “We want to ensure the team is better equipped technically and tactically for the challenge ahead.”
