Black Stars midfielder Kwasi Sibo has expressed strong belief in Ghana’s potential to make a major impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the current squad has the quality and unity to go far in the competition.

Ghana secured qualification for their fifth World Cup appearance after topping Group I with 25 points, sealing their place at the global tournament to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Black Stars’ best run came at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals before suffering a heartbreaking elimination to Uruguay on penalties. However, in their last two appearances, the team has been unable to advance beyond the group stage.

Sibo believes this generation has what it takes to change that narrative.

“This team can really achieve big in the World Cup,” he told JoySports.

“The players I’ve trained with are doing well at their various clubs in Europe. This team is more united, and when a team is united, it’s really hard to beat. We’re all together, making jokes, and that makes a team really strong.”

The 27-year-old midfielder, who plays for Real Oviedo in Spain, earned a late call-up during September’s international break following Elisha Owusu’s suspension and Ibrahim Sulemana’s injury. Since then, Sibo has become an integral part of the team, forming a solid midfield partnership with Thomas Partey as Ghana recorded crucial wins over the Central African Republic and Comoros to secure qualification.

Sibo is now hoping to retain his spot in Otto Addo’s squad for the November Asian tour against Japan and South Korea, as Ghana continue their preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
