Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has left the door open for a potential call-up of Dutch-born Ghanaian goalkeeper Rome Owusu-Oduro.

In recent discussions, Addo expressed interest in players of Ghanaian heritage who demonstrate high skill levels, reflecting the Black Stars' broader scouting strategy.

Reports from the Netherlands suggest that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approached the AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper about the possibility of joining the national team.

Despite this, Owusu-Oduro was not included in the 23-man squad announced for the first two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

Addo stated, “We are focusing on our next game, and one thing you can be sure of is that every player who is good and has Ghanaian heritage and could play for the national team, we are interested. If somebody has a Ghanaian name and plays in the top leagues in Europe, this question is for sure.”

Owusu-Oduro has had a solid start to the season with AZ Alkmaar, featuring in three games and keeping two clean sheets.

The Black Stars will face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on September 5, 2024, and then travel to Morocco to play against Niger on September 9. Note that Niger has not been approved by CAF to host continental games.
