Western Region have been crowned champions of the 2024 KGL Foundation Inter-regional U-17 Championship for the first time after an important 2-1 victory over Eastern Region earlier this afternoon in Prampram.
Both teams right from the start of the competition have been very impressive and managed to triumph over all other regions that stood their path to reach the final stage.
The third place playoff kicked off the excitement earlier today at the Ghana Soccer Center of Excellence with Northern Region narrowly defeating Volta Region by 1-0 to clinch the third spot.
The main event, thus the final continued afterwards and was really a thrilling one with Stephen Cobbinah handing Western the lead in just six minutes from kickoff.
The lead was subsequently cancelled out by Eastern's Shaibu Abubakar on the 28th minute to split the score before half time.
In the dying embers of the game, Western Region's skipper Benedict Afful tapped into the net the match winner at a very close range to mark his sixth in the competition to secure the ultimate.
One of the main reasons this competition is organized is to unearth young talents nationwide at colts level and these youngsters afterwards, will be groomed and trained very well in the country's various youth national teams.
