A first-half strike from Nafiu Sulemana helped Nations FC record a crucial away win over FC Samartex in their 2023/24 Ghana Premier League match-week 19 fixture on Monday morning.

FC Samartex suffered their first home defeat in the ongoing Ghana Premier League following a 1-0 defeat to Nations FC at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena.

The fixture was rescheduled to be played earlier today following the heavy downpour in Samreboi on Sunday, March 3, 2023.

The Timber Giants dominated the early minutes of the game, with Emmanuel Adu Siaw being denied by the post from opening the scoring via a free-kick in the 13th minute of the contest.

Duo Gabriel Appiah and Emmanuel Acquah combined to control the midfield of FC Samartex, but their attackers were wasteful in front of goal as they failed to make good use of the passes delivered to them in the first half.

Coach Kassim Mingle's side took over possession of the game in the last ten minutes of the first half to unleash pressure on FC Samartex to concede before the break.

Nations FC capitalized on a defensive error by the host to open the scoring through Nafiu Sulemana in the 42nd minute of the game.

In the second half, FC Samartex made changes in their tactical approach for the remaining minutes with the hopes of snatching the equalizer to maintain their unbeaten home record.

However, Nations FC stood resolute in all departments to keep the home side at bay and secure their third away win of the 2023/24 season's campaign.

Following the victory, Nations FC have moved to fourth place with 30 points. While pressure is exerted on league leaders, FC Samartex and second-place team Asante Kotoko—32 points—are three points clear of catching up on the league table.
