The 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season is poised to enter Week 4 as participating clubs prepare to resume action.
Following Week 3, newly promoted side Bofoakwa Tano currently tops the league standings with seven points. Surprisingly, defending champions Medeama Sporting Club find themselves at the bottom of the league table with just 1 point from two games and one more match to be played.
This upcoming weekend will see all 18 clubs in action, with matches scheduled from Friday, October 6, to Monday, October 9. Here, we preview the clash between Karela United and Great Olympics.
Karela United enters the match following a 1-1 draw against giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko. This season, the team, now based in Tamale, has secured one win, one draw, and suffered one loss. Currently occupying the sixth position on the Ghana Premier League table, Karela United believes they can contend for the championship this season.
On the other hand, visiting team Great Olympics remains undefeated since the start of the new league season. The capital-based club drew their first two matches of the season and clinched a victory in their last encounter against Bibiani Gold Stars. Traveling to Tamale this weekend, they aim to avoid defeat and secure at least a point before returning to Accra.
In the last five matches between these two clubs, neither side has established dominance. The records show one win for each team, with the remaining three matches ending in draws. However, Great Olympics had the upper hand over Karela United last season, winning the first encounter and drawing the reverse fixture to secure four points from a possible six.
The upcoming clash between Karela United and Great Olympics is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 8. The game will kick off at 3 p.m. at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
