After recording superb strings of results in the Ghana Premier League adventure this season, Asante Kotoko host Accra Lions in Sunday afternoon's matchday five battle at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors produced a sweet victory over Nsoatreman in an outstanding match in Wednesday’s 1-0 victory, while Accra Lions have had a weekend to rejoice over their scintillating 3-1 turnaround against Chelsea.

Match Preview

Asante Kotoko would have been deserving victors against a below-par Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park last Sunday, where Zakaria Fuseini was the hero on the day as he fired the equalizer to make it 1-1, after going down in the 5th minute mark.

Had Prosper Ogum’s men clung on for the final few moments, they would have gone four games - winning thrice at the start of a Ghana Premier League season, but the 2nd-placed hosts cannot dwell on such hypotheticals before a daunting trip south to Legon Cities.

Still boasting just the one win this term - that phenomenal comeback success against Kotoko - Accra Lions will be aiming to surprise their more experienced opponents in their adopted grounds.

However, just one of Accra Lions six meetings with Kotoko went the way of the Yen Nyinaa Dea since 2022, while the Porcupines recorded four wins, one draw in their six meetings with Accra Lions.

Team News

With Samba now at an acceptable level of fitness, as he has started training, he is the only definite absentee for the hosts to worry about on Sunday, but Samuel Tenedu and Baba Yahaya are doubts with injury issues.

As far as Accra Lions are concerned, Ibrahim Tanko will unleash his usual stars as he will have full house in contention for the three maximum points on Sunday.

Asante Kotoko possible starting lineup:
Asare (GK) (C), Ablorh, Acquah, A. Amoah, L. Amoah, Antwi, Asiedu, Blay, Dauda, Kye-Baffour, Ntim.

Accra Lions possible starting lineup:
Bonsu (GK); Adomako Boateng, A. Mohammed (C), Alladoh, Apiiga, Dankwah, Gyimah, Hamzata, Paaku, Setordjie, Tahiru.

We say: Asante Kotoko 2-2 Accra Lions

Defensively, Kum-Apem has been solid in the Premier League this term under Ogum, who witnessed the perfect reaction at Len Clay this week and should also oversee another home performance more befitting of the Porcupine Warriors on Sunday.

Although Accra Lions have not been able to keep all of their games close in 2024-25 and should not be blown to smithereens by their hosts here, but we cannot see any scenario that involves the Lions leaving with anything more that a point to show for their efforts.
