Drawing the curtain on Ghana Premier League gameweek 10 with a mouthwatering youthful exuberance clash, Holy Stars and Accra Lions scrap it out at Crosby Awuah Park on Sunday afternoon.
Only one point and two place separates the two side’s in the table pack after nine matches of the 2024-25 campaign.
Match Preview
Following a fair few last-minute surprises in the 6pm kickoff last Friday against Samartex, Accra Lions sought to avoid suffering the same fate as Ibrahim Tank makes his first visit to his new stomping ground with Ghana Premier League toddlers.
For Holy Stars, they nearly had the last laugh against Berekum Chelsea last weekend in the four-goals (2-2) thriller, with the Bibires being extremely lucky- thanks to a fine finish from Golden City Park flame in Stephen Amankonah, as he made himself a Berekum hero.
The only miniscule positive that Holy Stars can take from last weekend's 2-2 heartache, that point was their third draw that the Anyinase based club had achieved in nine Ghana Premier League games; they had previously succumbed to Bibiani Goldstars, Medeama, Vision and Nsoatreman’s superiority in October, racking up two wins.
Lying 13th in the standings after Sunday’s fixtures, a return to home comforts may or may not be welcomed by the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park faithful, whose side have scored five goals, so far, in the top-flight this season.
Team News
There is no known injury situation in both clubs.
The Holy Stars boss Abdulai Gazale has promised to go strong this weekend at home and deliver.
Holy Stars possible starting lineup:
Aboubakar (GK); Kwame, Asante, Author, Baffour, Boadi (C), Opoku, Oteng, Simba, Tweneboah, Yakubu
Accra Lions possible starting lineup:
Bonsu (GK); Remember, Apiiga, Awoute, Dankwah, Hamzata, Ali Mohammed (C), Nwafor, Setordjie, Tahiru, Taylor
We say: Basake Holy Stars 2-2 Accra Lions
Accra may have lost their groove on the road so far, statistically speaking, but Holy Stars will be the first non-Big Six side that the free-scoring capital side face away from home in 2024-25, and their hosts are not adept at keeping the back door shut.
However, even if Gazale’s men can edge ahead, they have already conceded goals in dying embers of their matches in their first appearance in the top-flight this season, and an Accra Lions team who thrive against young minded-like games should do enough for a point against an Nzema classic.
