Looking to stretch their Premier League win to five matches, Basake Holy Stars will sit at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Stadium for a date with fellow newly promoted Young Apostles on Saturday afternoon.
Abdulai Gazale's men denied Nurudeen Amadu a dream Samartex away win as they lost 1-0 in their match-day 12 clash prior to the league going on break for the 2024 General Elections, while the Agya Na ƆwƆ Tumi boys crumbled in a heavy 2-0 loss to Medeama.
Match Preview
The two-week reset had seemingly come at an opportune time for Holy Stars in the wake of their previous defeat to Legon Cities, having now suffered five losses this season, Abdulai Gazale’s team have been bumped down to tenth place with 15 points in the Premier League table.
However, both Holy Stars seem to be having the same destiny in the top flight as they have both conceded twelve goals so far after 12 rounds of matches, with their defensive discipline appearing to be questionable.
The defeat against Medeama saw Young Apostles taking a shaky 12th place on 13 points for the last twelve games on offer, putting them on the cusp of clambering out of the danger zone with two points.
Holy Stars possible starting lineup:
Aboubakar (GK); Kwame, Asante, Author, Baffour, Boadi (C), Opoku, Oteng, Simba, Tweneboah, Yakubu
Young Apostles possible starting lineup:
Ofosu (GK), Aboubakar, Afram, Amegbe, Huseine, Kontor, Lomotey, Muftaw, Muntalla, Rahman, Suleiman (C).
We say: Basake Holy Stars 1-1 Young Apostles
As praiseworthy as Holy Stars performances against Samartex were, the GPL toddlers are still lacking the formula for defensive success as their opponents - Young Apostles should not expect to leave the Crosby Awuah Ground with maximum points.
However, with Young Apostles also struggling defensively, we can envisage the Wenchi based team holding out for a low-scoring draw as the Westerner’s plight continues.
