Accra Lions secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, bouncing back to winning ways in a tightly contested match.

The game began with high intensity, as Jacob Awoute narrowly missed an early effort for Lions before Kojo Gyesi forced a save from goalkeeper Daniel Afful at the other end.

Moments later, the hosts took the lead when Lucky Nwafor’s delivery into the box found Ahmed Yousif. His initial attempt was blocked, but Ernest Agyensem reacted quickest to slot home the opener.

Legon Cities responded well, creating chances through Agyemang Raymond. Their persistence paid off just before halftime when a cross from Joseph Amoah struck Richard Agyen’s hand in the box, resulting in a penalty. Captain Frank Akoto made no mistake from the spot to level the score.

However, Lions restored their lead at the stroke of halftime when Lawrence Setirdjie’s well-placed free kick found Musa Hamzata, who pounced to fire home.

After the break, Accra Lions had a golden chance to extend their advantage, but Derrick Owusu failed to convert from close range.

Nwafor and Yao Sokpoli also came close midway through the second half, while goalkeeper Afful produced a crucial late save to preserve the lead and secure an important win for the hosts.
