Accra Lions have stunned giants Asante Kotoko by an emphatic 3-0 to throw their league winning hopes in a strong doubt in an outstanding GPL match-week 22 clash at Ohene Gyan Stadium.

The homesters right from onset attacked with so much purpose and eventually got themselves a free kick in the early stages but Edmond Amakye had his effort saved by Frederick Asare.

In the 14th minute, Albert Amoah jumped high to connect from Adrian Adjetey's cross but missed the post by inches.

In the closing moments of half-time, Yao Sokpoli scored again to double the host' lead after slotting home from a pass from Jacob Awoute.

In the second half, Asante Kotoko returned on a higher note and nearly pulled one back in just five minutes from the break but Samba O'Neil's towering header from Adrian's corner kick delivery went off the crossbar.

Fuzy Taylor came so close to scoring again for the home team but his strike missed the target by inches. 

The Blue-Blacks made it 3-0 in the minute courtesy David Olubi Akintunde who made a little to struck beyond the reach of Asare at a close range to complete the riots. 

Accra Lions after the win have moved out of the danger zone as they currently sit in 14th place with 29 points. They will face Heart of Lions next.

Asante Kotoko after this loss have dropped from the top to the second position following Bibiani Goldstars' win and have now extended their winless to three matches now.

They will face Nations FC in what will be a very difficult game in the next round of matches in Abrankese.
