Asante Kotoko extended their unbeaten run to eight matches and held onto their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Justice Blay gave Kotoko the lead with a well-taken goal in first-half stoppage time, capping off a solid opening 45 minutes for the visitors.
But Heart of Lions responded almost immediately after the break, with Fawzi Ali levelling the score just two minutes into the second half.
The game opened up after the equaliser, with both teams creating chances in a lively second half. However, despite the intensity and end-to-end play, neither side managed to find a winning goal.
While the draw ended Kotoko’s winning streak, it proved valuable as it extended their lead at the top to two points, benefiting from Bibiani Gold Stars’ loss to Dreams FC.
The Porcupine Warriors remain in control of the title race and will next host Bechem United in a crucial fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Heart of Lions, meanwhile, maintained their place in third and continued to show their resilience and top-four credentials with a strong performance.
They’ll look to build on the result when they take on Berekum Chelsea in their next outing, another key clash in the race for continental qualification.
With the season entering its final stretch, the result keeps both sides firmly in the mix—Kotoko chasing the title, and Heart of Lions aiming for a top-four finish.
