Bibiani Goldstars FC took a giant stride toward their maiden Ghana Premier League title with a thrilling 3-2 away win over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Sunday afternoon.
In a match that sparked into life early, the hosts drew first blood in the 9th minute through Stephen Amankona, who finished confidently to give Berekum Chelsea an early lead.
But Goldstars responded in ruthless fashion, flipping the game with three goals in a devastating 11-minute blitz. Foster Agyei drew them level in the 14th minute, calmly converting from close range. Abdul Farouk Amoaful then took centre stage, netting twice in quick succession in the 23rd and 25th minutes to put the visitors 3-1 up before the half-hour mark.
Amankona gave Chelsea hope in the second half with his second goal of the day in the 53rd minute, narrowing the deficit to 3-2. The home side pushed for an equaliser in a tense final stretch, but Goldstars defended resolutely to see out the win.
The result keeps Goldstars atop the league table and within touching distance of history. A win in their final fixture at home against Accra Lions will crown them champions of the Ghana Premier League for the very first time.
