Nations FC returned to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League as they held on to secure a 2-1 victory over Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park on late Sunday afternoon.

Having failed to win their opening two matches, Aduana came into the weekend determined to find their feet and get up and running in the top flight this season.

Yaw Acheampong’s men had kicked off the new campaign with an impressive 1-1 draw against Heart of Lions on September 8, but failed to build on that result as they recorded yet another goalless draw stalemate at the hands of Bechem United seven days later.

Meanwhile, Nations FC set out in hopes of returning to winning ways after their 0-0 opening-day draw against Bechem United at the Kwame Kyei Sports Stadium on September 8, and was followed by another goalless draw at Young Apostles one week later.

In today’s match, Kasim Mingle’s men drew first blood in the 28th minute courtesy of Nafiu Sulemana’s first goal of the campaign before Aduana fought their way back into the game as Kelvin Obeng powered the equaliser for the home team, giving the hosts some breathing space for 14 minutes to hand the Fire Boys a late lifeline.

However, Mingle’s charges pushed for a late winner by upping their tenacity, firing from all cylinders which their high pressing open fire paid off in the 89th minute as former Akatsi All Stars live wire Faisal Charwetey notched the second goal for Nations FC.

Yaw Acheampong’s side pushed for a late equaliser but Nations held firm to secure all three points and record their first win this season which was also a sweet one away from home to start the campaign.
