Berekum Chelsea produced a spirited second-half turnaround to secure a 2–1 victory over league leaders Medeama SC in a gripping matchweek 30 clash at the Golden City Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The visitors made a bright start and silenced the home crowd early on when Kelvin Nkrumah fired Medeama into the lead in the 11th minute. The left winger latched onto a clever pass from midfield orchestrator Salim Adams before surging through the Berekum Chelsea defence and calmly slotting beyond goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi.
Despite the early setback, the Bibires responded quickly and found their equaliser just nine minutes later. Seidu Abubakari restored parity in the 20th minute, finishing off a well-worked move to bring Berekum Chelsea back into the game at 1–1 before halftime.
After recess, the home side played with more energy and confidence. Their winning goal came in the 64th minute. Medeama failed to clear the ball in their box, and Chelsea took advantage. Prince Anane made a good run past Fatawu Sulemana and sent a fine pass to Jonah Attuquaye, to finish off with his left feet.
Backed by a charged home crowd, Berekum Chelsea held firm in the closing stages, even as Medeama pushed forward in search of a late equaliser. The Yellow and Mauves applied sustained pressure but were unable to find the breakthrough, as the hosts defended resolutely to protect their lead.
The win moves Berekum Chelsea up to 13th place with 41 points. Medeama stay top of the Ghana Premier League table with 56 points despite the loss.
