Basake Holy Stars finally broke their winless run in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League with a stunning 2-0 victory over reigning champions Bibiani GoldStars at the AAK Sports Arena in Ampain on Sunday.

After going eight games without a win, the Nzema-based side delivered a spirited and dominant first-half performance that secured their maiden top-flight triumph before the break.

Prince Opoku opened the scoring in the 36th minute, finishing off a slick team move that caught the GoldStars defence flat-footed. Just four minutes later, Prince Tweneboah doubled the lead with a composed strike, sparking jubilant celebrations among the home supporters as Holy Stars went into halftime with a two-goal cushion.

GoldStars, who had arrived in Ampain unbeaten in their previous four league outings, struggled to find their rhythm and were outplayed for large spells of the game. Despite creating a few opportunities in the second half, the champions were unable to breach a disciplined Holy Stars backline that stood firm to record their first clean sheet of the campaign.

The result ends Holy Stars’ eight-game winless streak and provides a huge confidence boost for head coach Thomas Nyarko’s men. Meanwhile, the defeat extends GoldStars’ troubling run of poor away form, leaving head coach Michael Osei with plenty to ponder ahead of their next fixture.
