Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has commended his players for their resilience and determination after they battled to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over archrivals Hearts of Oak in Sunday’s Super Clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

Playing away from home, the Porcupine Warriors produced a disciplined and spirited performance to edge their fierce rivals in what was the first meeting of the season between the two most successful clubs in Ghanaian football.

Guinean forward Morifing Donzo emerged as the hero of the day, scoring the decisive goal that sealed all three points for Kotoko in a tense and closely contested encounter.

Speaking after the match, coach Karim Zito admitted the game was a tough battle but credited his players’ strong mentality and desire to win as the key to their success.

“Everybody knows how difficult it is when Hearts and Kotoko meet. You saw the atmosphere — the supporters were amazing. It wasn’t easy, but the mindset was there to win this game because we knew how important it was for our objectives,” Zito said.

The victory extends Kotoko’s unbeaten run to six matches in the ongoing campaign, underlining their strong start to the season. With three games in hand, the Reds remain firmly in contention for the Premier League title as they continue to build momentum under Zito’s leadership.
