Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has hailed the hard work, commitment, and positive attitude of his players following their crucial 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the first Super Clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The Porcupine Warriors traveled to the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday and produced a determined performance to overcome their fiercest rivals in a fiercely contested encounter.
Guinean striker Morifing Donzo emerged as the hero of the day, netting the only goal of the match to secure all three points for Kotoko and extend their unbeaten start to the season.
Reflecting on the win, Coach Zito admitted that the game was far from easy but praised his side’s mentality and work ethic as the key factors behind their success.
“Everybody knows Hearts and Kotoko — how difficult it is,” Zito said after the game. “You saw the supporters today; everyone is happy. It was a tough match, but the mindset was there to win because we knew this victory would help us achieve our objective.”
The experienced tactician highlighted the team’s character and discipline, insisting that their success was built on consistent effort and belief.
“Hard work, dedication, and attitude did the magic for us,” he emphasized.
Zito also took a moment to appeal to the club’s passionate fanbase for patience and continued support as the team works toward reclaiming domestic dominance and returning to continental football.
“I plead with the fans to be patient with the players. We will be back in Africa soon,” he assured.
Sunday’s win keeps Asante Kotoko unbeaten in their first six matches of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. With three games in hand, the Porcupine Warriors are in a strong position to challenge for the title and restore their status as one of Africa’s premier football clubs.
