Paul Atta Agyei came off the bench to score a dramatic late winner as Heart of Lions claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea at the Kpando Stadium on Sunday, returning to winning ways in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.
The substitute, introduced in the 65th minute, made an instant impact, netting in stoppage time to hand the hosts a deserved three points after a tense encounter.
Heart of Lions started the game on the front foot, appealing for a penalty as early as the fifth minute before Ishmael Addo squandered a close-range opportunity. The Lions were then dealt an early setback when midfielder Yaw Danso picked up an injury and was replaced by George Osei, moments after Chelsea came close to scoring with a strike that rattled the post.
Both teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0, but Lions continued to press after the restart, with forward Michael Ephson testing the Chelsea goalkeeper with the first effort on target.
Head coach Bashiru Hayford made key tactical changes in the second half, bringing on Atta Agyei for Samuel Boamah and later introducing Seedorf Asante — making his return from injury — for Kwadwo Obeng Jr.
The changes paid off handsomely, as Atta Agyei struck in injury time to seal a vital home victory for the Kpando-based side, reigniting their campaign after a difficult spell.
