Asante Kotoko ended a two-game winless streak with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Young Apostles in their outstanding Week 6 Ghana Premier League fixture at Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
The Porcupine Warriors dominated possession in the first half and created multiple chances but were unable to break the deadlock. Their breakthrough finally came six minutes into the second half when midfielder Hubert Gyau unleashed a thunderbolt strike to put the hosts ahead.
However, Kotoko’s lead lasted only three minutes, as Young Apostles responded through a well-executed team move finished off by Richmond Opoku, who headed in the equalizer.
The remainder of the match saw an intense end-to-end battle, with Kotoko pushing for a winner. The decisive moment arrived in added time when captain Samba O’Neil calmly converted a penalty to secure the 2-1 victory.
With this result, Asante Kotoko climb to 5th place in the Ghana Premier League standings with 19 points, with one outstanding match still to play.
