Heart of Lions secured a 3-2 victory over FC AshantiGold 04 in an entertaining Ghana Premier League match-week 5 encounter at the Kpando Stadium.
The hosts made a strong start and took the lead in the 19th minute through William Oduro. AshantiGold responded three minutes later, with Raphael Ankamah finding the net to restore parity.
The game continued with a very high tempo with Francis Odoom putting Heart of Lions back in front in the 24th minute before Oduro completed his brace in the 38th minute to give the hosts a 3-1 advantage at half-time.
The Miners returned from the break determined to fight back, and Ankamah grabbed his second goal of the afternoon in the 73rd minute to reduce the deficit to 3-2. However, the Miners could not find another goal as the Dzie Woa Nu lads held on to secure all three points.
The win marks Heart of Lions’ second consecutive victory after going without a win in their opening two matches of the season. They will now face league leaders Medeama SC in Tarkwa in their next fixture.
FC AshantiGold 04, meanwhile, have suffered their second defeat of the campaign and will seek to return to winning ways when they host FC Samartex next.
