Former Nsoatreman FC head coach and ex-Ghana international Yaw Preko has expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to secure victory over Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana resume their qualifying campaign next month with crucial Matchday 7 and 8 fixtures. The four-time African champions will face Chad away at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on Thursday, September 4, before returning to the Accra Sports Stadium to host Mali on Monday, September 8.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Preko stressed the importance of focus and determination in the upcoming games.
“We know what is at stake now, and if you look at our performance in the last games, the players should go into these fixtures with the same determination,” he said.
While acknowledging the challenges of facing Chad on artificial turf, Preko remained optimistic about Ghana’s chances.
“Playing against Chad will not be easy, but we have to be vigilant and get the right players for that game because it will be on an astro turf. Still, I strongly believe we have what it takes to win,” he added.
The Black Stars currently top Group I with 15 points from six matches, three points ahead of Comoros and five clear of Madagascar, as they continue their push for a fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
Coach Otto Addo and his squad are set to begin camp in Accra on Monday, September 1, to prepare for the decisive qualifiers.
