Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil has praised his teammates for their resilience and determination after their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak in the Matchday 9 fixture of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors maintained their dominance in the Super Clash, edging their arch-rivals at the Accra Sports Stadium thanks to a first-half penalty converted by Guinean forward Morifing Donzo.

Speaking after the match, O’Neil — who was named Man of the Match for his commanding performance — said the players’ mindset and hunger to win were key factors behind the result.

“Hearts of Oak is a very strong side. The game was not easy, but we were determined to win,” the Kotoko skipper stated.

The win extends Kotoko’s unbeaten run against Hearts of Oak to five league matches, underlining their recent dominance in Ghana’s biggest football rivalry.

With the result, Abdul Karim Zito’s men remain unbeaten in their first six league games of the season and have three matches in hand, putting them in a strong position in the early title race.

Kotoko will now turn their attention to their next fixture, as they continue their quest to reclaim the Ghana Premier League crown and return to continental competition.
