Hearts of Oak midfielder Mohammed Hussein has publicly apologised for his unsportsmanlike conduct towards referee Reginald Collins Amoah following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
In a heartfelt statement posted on Facebook, Hussein admitted that his behaviour after the final whistle was unacceptable, taking full responsibility and expressing remorse to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the referee, his teammates, and the club’s supporters.
“With a heavy heart, I sincerely apologise to the GFA, the referee, my teammates, our cherished supporters, and the wider football community. What happened after the final whistle was unacceptable, and I take full responsibility for my behaviour,” he wrote.
Hussein revealed that frustration during the heated contest clouded his judgment, leading to a reaction he now regrets.
“Instead of showing restraint and respect, I reacted wrongly, and I regret it deeply,” he added.
The midfielder assured fans that he has learned from the incident and is determined to rebuild trust through his actions on and off the pitch.
“I am committed to making amends and proving, through my conduct going forward, that I have learned from this mistake,” he concluded.
His apology follows Hearts of Oak’s official statement condemning the incident and confirming that internal disciplinary measures have been initiated. The GFA Disciplinary Committee has also charged Hussein, giving him a few days to respond or appeal the decision.
