Accra Hearts of Oak have strongly condemned the attack on match officials that followed their 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Asante Kotoko in Sunday’s highly charged Super Clash.

The Phobians suffered their first defeat of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season at the Accra Sports Stadium, courtesy of a controversial first-half penalty converted by Morifing Donzo. Hearts thought they had equalised through Mawuli Wayo in the second half, but his effort was ruled out for offside — a decision that sparked heated protests from some players.

In the aftermath, midfielder Hussein Mohammed was captured confronting and attacking the referee, prompting widespread criticism from fans and stakeholders.

In response, Hearts of Oak issued an official statement expressing deep regret over the incident and reaffirming their commitment to the principles of discipline, respect, and fair play.

“Following the conclusion of the match, we acknowledge with deep regret the unfortunate scenes that unfolded after the final whistle. These moments do not reflect the values we uphold as a club — values rooted in discipline, respect, and the spirit of fair play,” the statement read.

The club further extended an unreserved apology to the Ghana Football Association, match officials, fans, and the general public, pledging to take immediate steps to reinforce professional conduct within the team.

“We recognise the importance of maintaining the game’s integrity and are taking immediate steps to reinforce that commitment. As part of our internal response, we have initiated a disciplinary process concerning the player involved.”

Meanwhile, Hussein Mohammed has been formally charged by the Ghana FA Disciplinary Committee and given a few days to respond or appeal the charge. The player has since apologised publicly for his behaviour after the match.
