Asante Kotoko defender Asante Kotoko SC right-back Lord Amoah has successfully undergone surgery following a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, officially ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
The defender, who joined the Porcupine Warriors from Berekum Chelsea, has been sidelined since March after sustaining the injury during a Ghana Premier League Matchday 23 fixture against Young Apostles. Despite his early exit, Kotoko went on to secure a convincing 2-0 away victory in that match.
The club confirmed that the surgery was successful and that Amoah will now begin a structured rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the team’s medical department.
“Lord Amoah has undergone a successful surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament, an injury he sustained during our Premier League match against Young Apostles. The right-back will now begin his recovery and rehab at the club with support from our medical staff,” Kotoko stated.
The injury represents a major setback for both player and club, with Amoah having established himself as one of Kotoko’s most consistent performers this season. His form had even sparked conversations about a possible national team call-up before the injury halted his progress.
Since arriving in the summer of 2024, the enterprising defender has grown into a key figure in the squad, making 23 appearances across all competitions and remarkably contributing nine goals from defence.
While his absence leaves a significant gap in the team, Kotoko will take encouragement from the successful surgery and will now focus on supporting his recovery, hoping to see one of their standout performers return stronger in the future.
