Asante Kotoko's head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, expressed his disappointment with his team's recent draw against Karela United in the betPawa Premier League matchday 3 fixture.
In a hard-fought match, Baba Yahaya emerged as the hero, coming off the bench to score a last-minute goal and secure a 1-1 draw for Asante Kotoko against Karela United at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday night.
The Porcupine Warriors have yet to secure a victory in their first three league games, having previously drawn with Heart of Lions and lost to Bibiani Goldstars.
Karela United took the lead early in the 9th minute through Evans Adomako, catching Asante Kotoko off guard. Adomako outran Asante Kotoko defender Henry Ansu and slotted the ball into the roof of the net for the opening goal.
Asante Kotoko pressed for an equalizer but couldn't find one before the first half concluded. However, their persistence paid off in the closing stages when Baba Yahaya rescued a point, extending their winless streak to six matches.
Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum expressed his frustration with the result, citing missed chances and the team's overall performance. He acknowledged that the result was not what he had expected.
"If you look at the chances we missed and the way we played right from the blast of the whistle to the end, especially in the second half, the chances we created, we missed, that wasnt the result I was expecting"
"All that we need to do is to keep practicing more goal scoring drills, giving them the confidence to be composed in front of goal, they need to pick their spot, apply the right technique and then that should be it so I will need to encourage them. It is better you create the chances and you miss than you don't create at all.
"If you create, it means the possibility of scoring is high because if you look at our first game up to now, we are creating more, we created less in the Heart of Lions game, we created more than that at Bibiani and today I think we created about two, three times than the number of chances we created at Bibiani so it's a good signal for the team"
The draw leaves Asante Kotoko in 17th place with 2 points, consisting of two draws and one defeat in their first three games of the season.
