Asante Kotoko have moved to clarify the role of coach Hamza Obeng at the club following reports indicating he had been relieved of his duties with the senior team.
Speculation had emerged that the former Hearts of Oak assistant coach had been reassigned exclusively to Kotoko’s junior side.
However, the club’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has dismissed those claims, insisting Obeng remains part of the senior technical set-up.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Duku explained that Obeng’s responsibilities are shared between the first team and the Porcupine Warriors junior side.
“Hamza Obeng has been assisting the senior team while the Third Division league was on hold. Now that their league has started, he will understandably focus on the juniors, as he is fully in charge of that side,” he said.
“Once their fixtures are completed, he will return to support the senior team. But he will continue to serve as an assistant coach to Zito.”
Obeng joined the Porcupine Warriors in June 2025 after leaving Vision FC, where he played a key role in guiding the Eeewo club to promotion to the Ghana Premier League two seasons ago.
Kotoko currently sit fourth in the Ghana Premier League table, with 31 points after 18 rounds of matches this season.
