Asante Kotoko have dismissed claims that Albert Amoah’s return to the club is unexpected.

According to Kotoko, the striker’s comeback is a normal thing when it comes to modern football.

The Porcupine Warriors confirmed the loan signing of the forward for the rest of the season on Thursday, bringing him back from Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi after a short stint in North Africa.

Amoah left Kotoko earlier this year following the club’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, where they suffered a heavy preliminary-round defeat to Wydad Athletic Club. However, limited playing time in Libya opened the door for a swift return to the Ghana Premier League.

Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, insisted the move had been carefully managed behind the scenes.

“I’m surprised by claims that Albert Amoah’s return is shocking. Such situations are common in football,” he told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

“After his transfer to Libya, Kotoko maintained regular engagement with both the club and the player.

“When a strategic decision was taken to release him on loan, Kotoko was considered first, and we gladly accepted, mindful of Albert’s legacy at the club. We believe his return will significantly strengthen our striking department.”

Amoah previously enjoyed a prolific stint at Kotoko after joining from Great Olympics in 2024, finishing the 2024/25 campaign as the club’s leading scorer with 15 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.

He also played a key role in Kotoko’s FA Cup success, scoring three times in four matches. Earlier this season, the silky striker found the net four times in six outings, including a brace against Kwara United in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
