Asante Kotoko have expressed grief following the death of Dominic Frimpong, a striker for Berekum Chelsea, who was killed in a reported armed robbery attack.
The incident happened as the team was travelling back from their Ghana Premier League match, when armed robbers attacked the club’s bus,
Frimpong, 20, died during the attack, while several others were reported injured.
In a statement, Asante Kotoko described the incident as a painful loss to Ghana football and extended their condolences to those affected.
“Our thoughts are with his family and Berekum Chelsea Football Club. May his soul rest in peace,” the club said.
Frimpong was seen as a rising talent and had begun to make an impact in the domestic league.
His death has shocked the Ghanaian football community, with clubs, officials and fans paying tribute and calling for better security for teams travelling to matches.
