Israeli heavyweights Maccabi Tel Aviv have registered strong interest in securing the services of Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil ahead of the January transfer window, according to Kumasi-based Wontumi FM.

The highly-rated defender is in the final year of his contract with the Porcupine Warriors and has emerged as a key transfer target following a string of commanding performances since joining the club.

O’Neil, a Congolese international, signed for Kotoko in 2024 from Rahimo FC and has since grown into a central figure in the team’s back line.

Per reports, Maccabi Tel Aviv - who are seeking to reinforce their defence - have tabled an offer in the region of $150,000 for the 25-year-old centre-back. Kotoko are, however, yet to take a firm decision on his future.

The situation has also attracted interest from elsewhere, with UAE outfit Dubai City reportedly weighing up a move for the Kotoko skipper in the upcoming window.

O’Neil has made 13 appearances in the Ghana Premier League this season, scoring twice, while also featuring four times in the CAF Confederation Cup, where he registered a goal before Kotoko exited in the second preliminary round.

Since arriving in Kumasi, he has chalked up 47 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist for the record Ghanaian champions.
